One-Light Wonder: Getting the Most Out of a Single Flash
One Light Wonder is an intermediate-level class designed to show how much can be done to create dynamic, professional-quality imagery utilizing just one off-camera flash. Through the use of light modifiers, shutter speed, speedlights and other techniques, students will quickly expand their ability beyond the snapshot. The class will primarily focus on portriature, but also cover shooting events and interiors. Each student will create a cohesive project throughout the class. Upon completion, The Image Flow will provide each student with a 16 x 20 print. There is a 12 student maximum for this class.
Class Requirements: We request that students have taken at least Photo Essentials 1 (or have a prior knowledge/practice equivalent) before beginning the class. Materials needed for One Light Wonders includes a SLR (with the ability for an off camera flash), speedlight, lightstand, and an umbrella or softbox. Instructor Biography: For the last 18 years, San Francisco shooter Dan Dion has worked as the house photographer at the legendary Fillmore Auditorium shooting the world’s greatest touring performers in rock’s most holy house. Dion is both a nationally known music shooter, and the world’s premier portrait photographer of comedians, with ongoing solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Sydney. He has taught both undergraduate and MFA classes in Location Lighting and Color Theory at the Academy of Art, and his photographs have been published in Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Spin, and over a hundred other publications. Clients include Showtime, Comedy Central, and Jerry Seinfeld. His book ¡SATIRISTAS!, a collection of satirist portraits and interviews co-authored with comic Paul Provenza, was published in 2010 by HarperCol lins.
